The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has commended Ghanaians for a peaceful and successfully conducted election.
Though worried about the reported isolated cases of violence in some collation centres, the council believes electorates have generally conducted themselves well during the voting period.
In a signed press statement by the General Secretary of GPCC, Rev. Emmanuel Barrigah said that, “the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council wishes to congratulate all Ghanaians for having participated and conducted themselves generally in a peaceful manner during the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections”.
The Council extended its commendation to the Electoral Commission (EC) and the security agencies for managing a peaceful process from the beginning to date.
GPCC reminded all citizens that there is only one country called Ghana hence the need to stay away from all potential hotspots and eschew all forms of violence even after the elections.
It also reminded the EC and the security agencies of their commitment to the people of Ghana to deliver a peaceful, credible and transparent election that is acceptable by all in a secure environment.
“We call on all Ghanaians to stay calm and be law abiding as we patiently look forward to the Electoral Commission’s final declaration of the results”, the statement read.
The December 9, 2020 statement asked the two main political parties, the NPP and the NDC, and their leadership to halt the accusations and counter attacks for the EC to create room for the EC to carry out its constitutional mandate in peace.
Rev. Barrigah called on the media to be professional and circumspect in their reportage in order not to jeopardize the security of the nation ahead of the declaration of the results.
