Only two genders exist – President Mahama declares at meeting with Clergy

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his stance on gender and marriage, stating that only two genders exist, male and female and that marriage is strictly between a man and a woman.

He cautioned against any attempts to redefine these principles, emphasizing the need to uphold traditional and cultural values.

Speaking at a meeting with the clergy on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre, President Mahama revealed that he has engaged in discussions with the Speaker of Parliament regarding the renewal of the expired Proper Family Values Bill.

He emphasized that such a bill should be introduced by the government rather than as a private member’s motion.

He further expressed hope that these consultations would lead to the reintroduction of a strengthened Proper Family Values Bill.

President Mahama also announced plans to initiate a nationwide consultation through the Minister of Local Government and Religious Affairs to establish a planning committee for a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.

He added that one of his key decisions in governance is to lead by example by limiting his ministerial appointments to no more than sixty, ensuring an efficient and effective government, a promise he has kept.

The President further stated that with his cabinet in place, he is steadily forming the extended government, ensuring that the team remains committed to national service rather than personal gain.
