Eid-ul-fitr: March 31, April 1, declared public holidays

The Governance has declared Monday, March 31 and Tuesday April, 2025 public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-fitr.

The Interior Ministry made the announcement on Saturday, March 22.

President John Dramani Mahama on March 1, announced that an extra public holiday will be observed in honour of the Muslim celebration of Eid ul-Fitr.

This decision aligns with his campaign pledge and serves as a recognition of the significant contributions of the Muslim community to national development.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the new Hajj Village on Friday, 28th February, President Mahama disclosed that he had directed the presidency’s legal counsel, Marietta Brew, to amend the Public Holidays Act accordingly.

“I am pleased to announce that I have instructed the legal counsel at the presidency, Madam Marietta Brew, to amend the Public Holidays Act to allow for an additional holiday in celebration of Eid ul-Fitr.

“From this year onwards, two public holidays will be observed at the end of the holy month of Ramadan,” he stated.
