Flagbearer of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) Reverend Christian Kwabena Andrews, has vowed to drag the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, to court over the alleged use of state funds to construct a National Cathedral.

According to the founder of the Life Assembly Worship Centre, Nana Akufo-Addo, prior to the start of construction works, told Ghanaians he was not going to commit public funds into the project.Christian Andrew

However, the government he claimed, is using state funds to finance the project, the preacher-cum politician told Captain Smart, host of the the ‘Anↄpa Bofoↄ’ morning show on Angel FM, Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

The president in 2017, announced his decision to build a 5,000-seater multi-purpose worship centre for the nation to be situated at the Ridge Roundabout in Accra. The edifice would also have a baptistery, a music school and a Bible museum. In February 2019, a fundraiser was held towards the construction of the proposed National Cathedral. The president pledged GH¢100,000 from his personal while two others also pledged GH¢1million each towards the project with another pledging US$50,000.

There were some GH¢100,000 pledges same as what President Akufo-Addo pledged.

Construction has already started forcing some judges whose residences fell within the catchment of the project to relocate.

But Osofo Kyiri Abosom is alleging that government is now funding the project which is a deviation from what the President told the nation.

He has, therefore, vowed to let the president answer at the law courts if he [Kyiri Abosom] wins the December 7 Presidential Election.
