A Ghanaian gospel musician, Nana Yaw Boakye Yiadom, has said he was surprised to see his music sell abroad when he “literally gave up” the fight.
MOG as he is known on stage, broke through with his “Be lifted” song which was released in 2018. The song as at the time of filing this report was streaming with over nine million views.
According to him, the song trended in the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK) and other parts of Europe, earning him his first call overseas to perform live.
“I received my first invitation to America to go and minister and got another to the UK” MOG told Ola Micheals, host of “Ye ko fie” on Neat FM, a programme monitored by Faithnewsgh.com.
However, hitting that stride did not happen with the snap of a finger. According to the artiste, the music production and everything related to it consumed his funds to the point of running out, yet all the investment made yielded no positive results.
“I spent money I didn’t have” he explained his frustration, adding that he had to travel abroad to take up a security job which he worked for two months “from 7 am to 7pm” each day which income he brought home to his sound engineer to produce the songs with.
With this experience on mind, releasing and promoting the song “Be lifted” was near impossible. “A day to the release of the song, I was so depressed. I was about to delete all of the files and search for some other jobs and do.”
His accountant, he indicated, encouraged him not to throw in the towel but consider the impact his music is making in the lives of listeners when he decided to veer into other industries where he could find a sense of fulfilment.
“So I posted it [Be lifted] on Youtube and turned off my laptop and went to bed. The next morning when I woke up, I received messages from anonymous persons.”
Meanwhile, he has attributed the success to God’s miracle-working power.
