Arrest, prosecute persons involved in LGBT office opening – Clergy to Akufo-Addo

The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), through its President, Reverend Professor Paul Frimpong-Manso, has issued a statement declaring the group’s position on developments relating to the Lesbianism, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community.

According the Council in its statement issued on February 22, 2021, the LGBT community’s actions are not only in violation of the laws of Ghana, but are also in contravention with laws of God on marriage.

“The Council views the action by the LGBTQI movement as an affront to our long cherished Religious values, customs and traditions as well as the laws of Ghana.

“The actions of the LGBTQI movement is also completely at variance with the laws of God as spelt out in the Holy Bible concerning God’s plan of creation and the sanctity of Marriage between Man and Woman as ordained by God,” the council said.

In light of this, the GPCC wants government to “officially state its position without any equivocation” on the development.

The council also wants the government to not only close down the office but arrest and prosecute all individuals and groups involved in the process.

The reason is that the LGBT community’s action, according to them, is tantamount to “breach of the law” and is a “potential threat to peace.”

In addition, they want government to take immediate step to “summon all foreign diplomats who allegedly participated in the opening of the LGBTQI office in Ghana to explain their violation of the sovereignty of Ghana.”

Parliament is also expected, according to the council, to question Ministers whose ministries are directly involved in protecting the sovereignty and security of the state in this development.

The statement read: “We also call on Parliament as the representatives of the people to summon the President’s Representatives at the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior to explain to Ghanaians what actions they have taken in relation to this matter to protect the sovereignty and security of the state of Ghana.”

“We also support the call for a comprehensive legislation to deal with the LGBTQI issues in Ghana once and for all to settle any future controversies,” it added.

The GPCC assures the public that it is resolute in its stance against the LGBT community and its activities and is working together with other groups with same vision to resist any foreign influence that is geared towards undermining the cultural values and dignity of the state.

“We are part and working closely with other ecumenical and interfaith groups through the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values to build up a strong national resistance to any move by external community to hoist on us any neo-liberal backward policies that denigrates our long held cultural values and dignity as a sovereign nation,” the council said.
